"One of the least lauded but most precociously talented of the present fine crop of poets whose work is enjoyed by children."
Bill Boyle, THE GUARDIAN.
Welcome to my website. I’m a writer, poet, performer and workshop leader. Since 1980, I’ve written or edited more than 120 books for children and young people, and I've visited schools, libraries, colleges and festivals throughout the UK and abroad to give readings, performances and lead workshops. I’ve also undertaken educational projects for, among others, Philharmonia Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Sinfonia 21, and Fitzwilliam Museum and Kettles Yard Gallery in Cambridge. I’ve taught courses in creative writing and children’s literature at Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge and the universities of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Northumbria.
This website is specially designed for teachers, librarians and others who might be interested in booking me for visits to Book Weeks, festivals and other events. As well as details of what I can offer as a poet, author and performer, this site also contains information about ICTales, an exciting new creative project to help children and teachers re-tell traditional stories, and create original stories of their own, using digital technology and combining writing, music, art, drama, ICT and a lot more. ICTales can also offer collaborative projects with the well-known composer, musician and workshop leader Simon Gunton. Have a look at the ICTales page on this site for more information.
